Use These Tools to Overhaul Your Yoga Routine Yoga is an effective combination of spiritual, mental, and physical practices famed for its wide range of health benefits. For the past few decades, this practice has rapidly increased in popularity. As new yoga studios pop up around the country, more and more people are adopting some version of this practice into their overall health routine. As with any form of exercise, there comes a time when you hit a plateau that makes it difficult to continue. This stagnation may derive from a lack of challenge, physical limitations, or sheer boredom. If you feel stuck in a rut, incorporate these tools and technology to overhaul your yoga routine. Turn to your phone for on-the-go practice. It’s tough to find time for a concentrated yoga session during the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Unless you live next door to a studio, you’ll need to find at least a few hours in your busy schedule to get in a solid workout. When you’re in a pinch, you can turn to yoga smartphone apps. If you need a versatile phone to run these advanced apps, you should look for a newer device to use as a yoga hot spot. You might be eligible for an update on your current plan. If not, you can always switch to a provider that will reward you with the newest iPhone, an unlimited plan, or an upgrade on a trade-in. There are also comparable Androids like the Samsung Galaxy s10 that are excellent alternatives. Consider using an exercise ball. Many practitioners are under the impression that mats are the only items to be used during a yoga routine. While there is something to be said about the effectiveness of this approach, using an exercise ball is a great way to revamp your practice. You can use exercise balls for added stability in order to tackle those challenging positions that have been giving your trouble. If you really feel like switching up your routine, there are some poses that can only be achieved with an exercise ball. Make sure to ease these changes into your sequences as they’ll be working very different parts of your body. Incorporate yoga blocks into your sequences. Yoga blocks are another helpful tool to incorporate into your yoga sequences when you’re looking to shake things up. These blocks are typically made from light materials such as bamboo, cork, or foam and are designed to be extensions for your limbs for achieving advanced positions. They can also be used to provide support for certain parts of your body such as the head, back, or hips, depending on what kind of poses you’re attempting. If you’re a beginner, yoga blocks are a great introduction to many poses by providing extra stability and lowering the distance between your limbs and the floor. Carry a yoga towel. Although it may sound like a towel can’t add much to your yoga routine, it’s a basic tool that should be in every practitioner’s arsenal. If you’ve been settling for a bath or beach towel, consider investing in one specialized for yoga practice. These towels have special absorption abilities that can trap your sweat without becoming sopping wet or smelly. With dry hands and a dry mat, you’ll be able to master positions quicker and more effectively. Towels are also great for protecting you from a dirty mat if you’re borrowing one during a class. Pushing your yoga routine to new limits is the best way to ensure you’re constantly challenged and receiving the most out of this practice. Sometimes, the implementation of new tools can help you overhaul your yoga routine and push past plateaus. Photo Credit: Pixabay.com
