Are You Winter Ready?!?

Winter is quickly approaching, are you ready? Do you plans set in place to ensure a healthy and happy next few months? This time of year, can prove to be extremely overwhelming on our bodies, health, and wellbeing. Let’s take a minute to explore some quick tips to be the Best YOU that you can be this winter!

Self-Care Plan: It is top priority to put a self-care plan in place for YOU. Yes, you! Often, we get stuck in the midst of “life” and our busy schedules, taking care of an abundant amount of responsibilities. More often than not, that equates to us tending to our own needs last. When we become drained, and overworked with little to no break, lack proper nutrition, sleep, and ample hydration… we are more inclined to become sick. So, let’s retrain our daily routine to include some simplistic self-care. This way we can be happy, healthy and enjoy all those wintry events that are coming up with friends, family and coworkers!

What does Self-Care look like, and how can I include it in my daily routine? Self-care is truly anything we do deliberately in order to take care of our physical, mental & emotional health and wellbeing. That includes anything from packing a healthy well-balanced lunch, to actively moving daily, scheduling a reflexology session, taking vitamins/supplements, daily meditation.  When we practice consistent self-care, that often leads to improvements in our mental, physical and emotional health.

Some things that we can include in a self-care plan are:

· Nutrition: A well balanced diet full of seasonal organic produce, organic meats, quality carbohydrates, fortified dairy {such as fatty fish, egg yoks} and plenty of H2O.
· Vitamins/Supplements: You will want to consider revisiting your regimen at least twice a year, {ideally, quarterly} to assess what your body needs based on current health, as well as environmental changes. In the frosty winter months that are filled with less sunshine, we often lack vitamin D. So, a good quality vitamin D can be one essential to look at including. Vitamin C is a wonderful preventative for colds and flu. It also can shorten the duration once you have already been infected.
· Activity: Get moving! Whatever sparks your interest and will get you motivated to continue, do that. It can be walking, yoga, running, swimming, weight lifting, boxing, cycling. Anything. Daily activity is so important to optimize and maintain our immune systems, as well as our mental and emotional health.
· Sleep: Simple, get a good night’s sleep. That’s easy, right? Well if you are anything like me, that task can often be difficult. However, our bodies are amazingly intelligent and receptive… once we begin to nourish it with proper nutrients, vitamins, minerals and introduce daily movement, it kind of resets itself. You should begin to notice a routine if you listen and are aware of your body, it will tell you what it needs, when it needs it.  You will begin to fall asleep quicker, stay asleep longer, and achieve a deeper sleep.
· YOU Time: This is where you find something that will allow you to find rest, relaxation, stress relief, perhaps you could try to include some bodywork here, such as reflexology. Reflexology is an amazing way to help your body achieve a state of complete wellbeing. Overall it can help combat specific physical ailments, seasonal ailments such as allergies, as well as provide you with relaxation and stress relief.

Staying healthy in these winter months will help you fight off any germs that you come in contact with! There are so many diverse holistic options to stay healthy and I would love to share them with you. We can chat about Holisitc nutrition, vitamins/supplements, herbal wellness, aromatherapy, reflexology, and lots more!
Take time to make yourself a priority, if you feel like you don’t know where to begin… that’s ok! Feel free to call me for a free phone consultation and we can begin a wellness journey together. I am also available for educational workshops/lectures.

ZYTO Scan... What is it? How Can it Help You??

Why Do You NEED ZYTO Scans?

How many times have we sat down to try to research and figure out what vitamins/supplements we should be taking in order to help us feel better? Or get us back to feeling like we used to? ZYTO is an amazing tool for that! It can help us see the bio markers that are out of place by using our bodies energy! Biomedical Engineers created this device, and it really is nothing short of amazing! I love when science and technology can come together to help do amazing things for the human body, mind and spirit!

Picture

The ZYTO technology uses Galvanic Skin Response or GSR. Much like the polygraph, Zyto sends stimuli to the body & measures the response. Everything on the planet has an electrical current. We are literally electrical beings in search of a recharge. Every electrical current is unique, like a fingerprint. A NASA scientist measured and identified the electrical current for 30,000 different energies — foods, bacteria, pesticides, you name it. These have been programmed into the ZYTO software. ZYTO  uses cutting edge technology from the principles of Information Theory and Quantum Physics to work with your body’s ability to respond to stimuli in order to gather data and decipher stressors that may be affecting it.

Iodine, What Purpose Do You Serve?

2/21/2018

while at school this past weekend, in my Vitamin and Supplement module, we did a really interesting experiment, with Iodine! Now if you have an allergy to iodine, you could not partake in this one, but if you don't, you should try it sometime.
We applied a small patch of Iodine to our arm, allowed it to dry, and then waited, watched, and waited some more.. Why? Well, it is a great way to see if your body is low in Iodine. If over time, the patch fades, it means your body is absorbing the Iodine because the levels are low in your body! It will disburse through the skin, and continue to get lighter over time. Now obviously, you will not want to scrub it with soap and water during this time, so you can get an accurate conclusion.
I decided that this experiment would make a great blog post, so I took pictures at certain time marks, so I would have them to share with all of you!
Take a look... these are my results!

Picture

I think that I may have needed that Iodine!

Like most people I know, I was not to familiar with the essential reasons why we should have the recommended amount of Iodine in our bodies.
What is it essential for? How do we include more of it in our daily intake?
Well Iodine is essential for normal metabolism, growth and development as it is a component of thyroid hormones. If you are deficient in Iodine, that could lead to some issues such as hypothyroidism, goiter, and cretinism. It could also play a part in fibrocystic breast disease.
WOW! Iodine kind of plays an important role in our bodies...
So what are some good sources we can get iodine from? Well we can eat vegetables that are grown in iodine rich soil, iodized salt, seafood, and milk are some good sources. However, the iodine content of our soil that are vegetables are grown in, vary with location. And the truth is, the soil that we use to grow in today, is sadly not as nutrient rich in any of the vitamins or minerals we need to have optimum nutrition.
